Inertial reference systems

Like Collodi’s fairy tale: if you go into Toyland, that is, if you give your physical and mental freedom to the master carny, you will be handing over your whole self without knowing what the bill will be. You will turn into donkeys without realising it. Everyone becomes an ass at the same time. You will be so busy among your jugglers that you will not notice anything. You will have become so much a part of that system that you will fight to defend it because the inability to conceive of anything else but that, coupled with the empty feeling of freedom to do anything, will prohibit you from revolting.

Human beings become accustomed to the customs of new mores more easily than one would think. This happens mainly as a consequence of a lack of: roots and perception of history. Severing all ties with the past by making people believe that young people are “er mejo” (=the best, in Roman dialect) creates a society with balsa feet. Believing you have everything at your fingertips without going through a personal, slow and thoughtful conquest creates only inconclusive smoke (or giant global messes).

The lack of an inner Reference leads to accepting anything. Any carny will take you by the nose and you won’t know it. You may be the manager of a startup, you will think you are in control, you will believe that being an alpha male is the model of life, but you are just a beta. You will still be paying the dues to the master carny. That feeling of power you will have over others below you is just an illusion because you will always be servants of those above you.

Being brought up and educated to perceive the Beautiful even without necessarily understanding it in a rational sense already creates the prerequisites for that inner Reference. Reference that, without words, defines a higher justice than that legislated by regulations. A noble and chivalrous spirit.

And those who believe they can speak to someone and make them think are greatly deluding themselves. For it is assumed that there is a formed critical thinking that makes things appear as they are. Instead conformism wins out in the individual without the Reference but perhaps the struggle is not in vain, perhaps there is someone standing in the ruins.

Without that Reference you will think that thinking out of the box is doing innovative things for people who didn’t know they needed it. Thinking out of the box without inner Reference is just running the Turing code of the society you live in.

True thinking out of the box today is to build a building out of stone, it is to write software that works well and always, it is to make a beautiful car, it is to create monuments to human genius, obelisks on Mars, it is to take the time to do a job properly, it is to free oneself from the sick conception of economic viability before the project itself, it is to throw oneself into an enterprise because it is a just challenge. A revolutionary act would be to re-prioritise the human Will to Power, restoring that disinterested and adventurous confidence of risk seeking. That pioneering youthfulness of the 1920s.

Perhaps it is inherent in human nature to create systems and then dismantle them. It is not for us to pass judgement for you but we sympathise with the talking cricket: a symbol of that fixed inner Reference that can make you judge for yourself.
